UKC Program for February: S.P.O.T. Testing
The UKC SPOT test is alot like their version of the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Test. It has
a series of 10 stations where dogs and handlers are given a rating of Outstanding,
Super, Good, or Needs more Work depending on the performance of the station. Dogs
that pass all 10 stations with a Good or better can earn the SPOT designation after their
names. This program is open to non-UKC registered dogs, pure and mixed breeds. Dogs
who earn a SUPER or better rating on all 10 stations earn a SPOT-ON certificate for their
achievement.  Test stations include how easily your dog enters and exits a crate, being
out for a walk, reaction to friendly stranger, sit/down, coming when called, maneuvers
around obstacles on loose lead, and other fun activities. This is not seen as a UKC title
but rather a certification to encourage people to get out and do more with their dogs.
Evaluators must read the Evaluator and Participant Handbooks, pay a $25 fee, and pass a
written test with a score of 85% or better to be approved as licensed UKC SPOT
SOABDC is proud to have 2 approved UKC SPOT Evaluators in our Club so that we
may host these events in southern Ohio: Kathi Jo Zornes and Brandon Zornes
Both were approved & licensed by the UKC as Evaluators in Feb 2016 when the
program first launched.
